An HTML5 ad consists of an index.html, stylesheets, images and fonts, packed as a ZIP or as a single file. The ad platform serves it in an iframe of the booked size, the browser renders the animation, and a click leads to the landing page. It replaced Flash and is now the standard for animated display advertising.

Compared with an animated GIF, text stays crisp, the animation runs smoothly and the file is usually smaller for the same length. The platforms set the limits: 150 KB under the IAB standard, 600 KB in Google Ads, 15 to 30 seconds of runtime and at most three loops.

The click is wired differently per platform: Google Ads wants no click code, ad servers want a clickTag variable, affiliate networks want a placeholder. That is why myfeedr exports the HTML5 set per target platform.
