The sitebar is a display ad next to the page content that scales with the height of the browser window.
The sitebar was developed for German news and portal sites and fills the free space to the right of the content. Unlike the skyscraper it has no fixed size: the creative scales with the window height, with aspect ratios from 1:2 to 1:3 being common. The file is usually delivered as 300×600 pixels or a large variant such as 500×1000, and the network scales it.
Because the creative is scaled, text in the file has to be set larger than in a standard banner, and thin lines or small logos blur. Flat, vector-like design with clear shapes survives scaling best.
Required for the site to work at all — session, login, shopping basket and protection against form abuse. These are set without consent because the site cannot be delivered without them.
